When it comes to recycling, size actually does matter. If the item is too small to go through the sorting equipment, it can get jammed in the machinery and shut down operations for extensive periods of time. So be sure to put things that are smaller than a credit card – like coffee pods and loose lids – in the trash. It’s also a good idea to make sure that the things placed in your recycling container aren’t too big either. Wasted space leads to landfill waste, because there is less room for recyclable materials. Break down boxes and flatten large items before you recycle them.
